Honorable Edwin Meese III
United States Court of Appeals, 5th Circuit
Attorney General Meese was the most recent recipient of the Review's Jurist
of the Year award; he was presented with the award in the spring of 1999.
Attorney General Meese's support has been instrumental in enabling the Review
to enjoy such wide and immediate success. He provided invaluable assistance
in assembling a Board of Advisors composed of some of the country's most respected
conservative scholars and leaders. He graciously offered to write an article,
Big Brother on the Beat: The Expanding Federalization of Crime,
for the Review's first issue in the spring of 1997.
When accepting his jurist award, Attorney General Meese had the following to
say about the Texas Review of Law and Politics:
"[Now] we have another great resource . . . the Texas Review of Law &
Politics. An intellectual journal that has one thing that is unique among most
law school journals . . . it is readable, interesting and entertaining! . . .
[It is] a tremendous addition to the total resources we have to deal with the
challenges of the legal profession . . . I see it going forward to be one of
the top legal publications in the country and a great credit to the University
of Texas Law School."
